poseMy name is Marita and I’m a 29-year-old science graduate and eldest of six. I’m passionate about organic farming, self-sufficiency and eating a locally-grown, plant-based diet.

I’m based on the south coast of NSW, where I juggle the running of my small gourmet mushroom farm and editing business. I also love to write.

I mean, what else do you want to know about me? I spent a few years after graduating traipsing through Europe wwoofing and farm-sitting and eating ridiculously delicious, nutritious food that I helped grow. I love the outdoors. I’m eccentric. I think overalls are cool. I hate going to the shops. I love foraging for stuff. I plan never to have Big Debts or a Mortgage as they seem Incredibly Scary.

Oh yeah, the blog name. You’re probably wondering about that. It’s because I’m loving life as I work from humus to hummus.* If you’re interested, follow my adventures as I pursue a simpler, more grounded and satisfying way of living.

*Note: humus is decomposed organic matter (think compost), which is vital to plant growth….including chickpea plants! Hence the humus to hummus link. If you don’t know what hummus is, I pity you. I TRULY PITY YOU.

  1. Hello Marita, I just want to tell you thank you for your wonderful blog. It has been such a pleasure reading it. I am the mother of a 19 year old “Woofer”, who has currently arrived at Mr. Atkins farm. (as of Nov.1) and will be there for two weeks. The only phone contact I have had from her, is that she and her friend Eli, had arrived safely after Mr. Atkins picked them up from the bus station. She was getting ready to go to sleep for the night, and did make mention, that there seemed to be a lot of spiders in the cabin…ha! I have not heard from her since! I so appreciate your sharing. She and her brother, my 24 yr old son Jacob did a 2 month stint , Woofing in Scotland last year, and made some lasting friendships, which I am told she will be re-visiting after her stay with the current “artisians”. Her name is “Tawnie”,, , she is my youngest daughter, and I love her so much. She is an adventurous, deep thinking, free spirit…lover of LIFE…and a cherished member of our family. Maybe you and her shall cross paths in your travels?! Again, thank you for your precious documention and photos. I will enjoy continuing to follow you on your site! God Bless! Oh, and my name is Tori 🙂

    1. Hi Leanne,

Thanks for your support at TEDx – it was a lot of fun! I’m currently in the process of setting up a website for mushroom kits and supplies. It should be up and running this week. I’ll announce the launch on instagram @miltonmushrooms. Excited to share the mushrooming love!
      Marita
